MASTER CLASSES
Paul De Castro holds a doctoral degree in music form the University of Texas and has taught at the University level since 1993. He is currently professor of music at California State University, Los Angeles. Among the master classes available are:
- The Salsa Rhythm Section. Lecture and hands-on demonstration aimed to help the young rhythm section play authentic rhythms and patterns for the most common Afro-Cuban rhythms such as chachacha, mambo, son montuno, etc.
- Introduction to Afro Cuban Music. Aimed towards the music aficionado. Ideal for a Music Appreciation or a World Music class.
- Afro Cuban, Salsa, and Latin Jazz Piano Techniques. For pianists in group or one-on-one setting.
- The Vast Variety of Latin American Music. Lecture with audio and video examples for the Music Appreciation or a World Music class.
Dr. De Castro is also a well-known director of ensembles having conducted the World Premier of Larry Harlow's Salsa Suite "La Raza Latina" on November 21. 2009. Special guests for that occasion included Memo Acevedo, Joaquin Arteaga, Adonis Puentes, Iris Cepeda, and Larry Harlow.
